Exams Training delivers two courses during each academic year for senior leaders line managers who have responsibility for examinations and assessments within their centre.
The content is designed to reflect the importance – and responsibilities – of senior leaders in the management of examinations in their centre, with a focus upon key areas at particular times during the academic year.
- Autumn training - This training focuses upon examination changes and stakeholder updates for the new academic year. The content also incudes the areas for which a senior leader has responsibility, including providing effective line management/performance management for their exams officer, exam-related policies, contingency planning and sharing information with candidates, parents and staff.
- Spring training - This training focuses upon the role and responsibilities of an exams officer before, during and after the summer exam series, and how a senior leader can successfully support, supervise and manage their exams officer in undertaking the relevant tasks. The content also addresses the contingency measures which senior leaders may put in place to mitigate the absence of their exams officers before, during and after an exams series.
- National Senior Leader/Line Manager Exams Conference - This conference takes place on Thursday 6 February 2025 and covers the exam-related areas for which senior leaders have responsibility. This is different to the content covered in the spring training which considers the tasks which an exams officer must undertake before, during and after an exams series. This allows senior leaders to provide effective support and supervision for their exams officer and consider contingency measures in the event of the absence of their exams officer.
Subject matter experts from The Exams Office are responsible for course content development and delivery. They have experience as members of SLT, devising and delivering DfE exams policies and initiatives, leading government exams support field teams, and creating good practice exam guides which are followed by more than 5000 schools/colleges. They will also be available throughout the day to answer your questions.
All courses contain a range of table-based activities to aid understanding, share good practice and network with colleagues.
All events start at 09:00 (registration from 08:30) and finish by 16:00
